For a firm that's intent on putting clients first, the global financial crisis has required rapid and far-reaching change. Clients have looked to us for exceptional advice and support, and we have been doing all we can to deliver. In exceptional times, our response must go beyond the ordinary. We have been reconfiguring our business with one over-riding aim: to deliver exceptional client service. In turn, this positions us well for whatever the future brings.

My name's Simon Michaels and I'm the UK Managing Partner of BDO.

The last 12 months have been interesting, loads of challenges and opportunities, and we've looked to evolve our business to be more agile and flexible.

We've seen a global downturn which has inevitably impacted the way companies are doing business and are thinking about business and that's affected a number of our international clients and domestic clients and what we have had to is look at how we shape our business to seize some of those opportunities and meet those challenges.

Being flexible and being able to adapt, being agile, moving faster than the competition, moving as fast as it is your clients need you to move is absolutely essential; and what we are trying to do is instil a culture within the organisation where we make sure we've got the best individuals and the best teams absolutely on call regardless of location.

We seek to empower everybody to be able to deliver that exceptional client service; and the sort of people at BDO are really free thinking, independently minded people who really want to make a difference.

We are very much looking to grow ahead of the market and we have plans in place to develop our relationships with existing clients and new clients; but we are also looking at developing markets for the firm in public sector, in international opportunities and also in our international and domestic outsourcing business.

Our headline strategy has been about having an overt focus on putting clients absolutely first and being completely joined up a one firm way in the way that we operate and the way that we do everything; so we've reorganised our business in a number of ways to make sure that we can deliver exactly what it is our clients want, exactly what it is the market wants and exactly what it is that sits behind our ambition of delivering exceptional client service.

But we also have a culture where our clients say they like dealing with us. We're commercial, we're pragmatic, we're entrepreneurial, and we are we don't layer the business with too much process. We make sure that everybody in BDO is available without too many layers of bureaucracy to be out there in the market place and servicing our clients.

We're full of confidence as a business about the future and have a real ambition to be recognised for the exceptional service we provide to our clients.
